Scripture Union has been a leading voice in providing age appropriate Christian programs in South Australian classrooms since 1984. Our SUPA Seminars are similar to our Christian Option Programs only that they’re condensed in format, suitable for schools that have a busy schedule.
SUPA Seminars are one-off programs for R-7s. They’re suitable for large groups of students and are designed to address issues relevant to children and the school context. They’re designed to help primary school students understand the basic teachings of Jesus, in light of the many issues and challenges they face today. They aim to broaden students options as they consider the major questions of life in an informative and educational way.
These programs are designed to fulfil the provision of the Education Act, which provides for ‘a maximum of one half day in each term to be set aside for the churches desiring to participate to hold seminars or gatherings’ [Regulations 192 (2)].
The curricula and materials used in the SUPA Seminars have been designed by South Australian educators, specifically for use in South Australian schools.
SUPA Seminars are taught by trained teams of volunteers. These volunteers are mostly local people from a variety of local churches, working in partnership with Scripture Union personnel. It is anticipated that Class teachers will be present, and are invited to participate if they wish.
During 2014 and 2015 the following seminars are being developed:
- Bullying
- Self-Esteem
- Respect
- Social Justice
- Choices.
